Wicked and Wild Kate Hill

It's so cool to have guest authors talk about their books and share something about themselves. Today we have the awesome Kate Hill talking about her new book from Ellora's Cave Mystery Stallion.

-Tell us a little about the book and where did you get the idea to write this story.

Mystery Stallion is about an outcast Horseman and a woman who has always admired his uniqueness. The hero, Grigori, was a secondary character in a previous story in the Horsemen series. Here’s a little more about the book:

Long ago a striped Horseman lost his heart to the only Horsewoman ever born. Feared and rejected, he allowed his bitterness to destroy them both. Since then, no striped Horseman has ever known love. . .until now.

Sold into slavery by his father, Grigori de Forest arrives home twenty years later to reclaim his birthright. Now lord of a land where superstitious villagers despise and fear him because he bears "the marks", he intends to live alone in his family's ancestral castle.

Since childhood, Violeta has been fascinated by the mysterious Grigori, whose striped coat sets him apart from other Horsemen. Desperate for work and knowing he has run off all his servants, she requests he hire her to cook and clean. She doesn't realize that he remembers her for an act of kindness toward him years ago.

Lust spurred on by shared dreams hurls them into a storm of passion, but their love and lives are endangered by the villagers and a plague that threatens to destroy the mighty race of Horsemen.

Mystery Stallion is available at Ellora’s Cave.

- Are you seat of the pants writer or plotter?

I like to have an outline, but I always leave wiggle room.

- Have any of your titles ever been changed from your original choice?

Oh yes. Here are a few changes:

Sweet Love series became Yummy Love series.

Birdman of the Adirondacks became Windswept.

Shadow Stallion became Mountain Stallion.

Fantasy Man series became Inked series.

Pleasured by the Bull became Naked Souls.

- If you could turn any of your books into a movie which book or series would it be?

Horsemen. I’d like to see the winged centaurs!

- Do you write full time or work outside of the home?

I write full time and work outside the home.

- A lot of people think that genre hopping isn’t a good idea. What do you think?

I think it’s a great idea. Write the story that begs to be written, no matter what the genre.

- Are you a morning or night person?

Definitely a night person. I’m much more productive at night and there are less distractions than during the day.

- Do you have any favorite movies?

I love movies, especially horror, sci-fi and fantasy. Some of my favorites are Cold and Dark, Black Knight, 28 Days Later, The Bat and Role/Play.

-Do you write a novel straight through? Or revise as you go? Plan a whole series in advance? Or does the series evolve?

I always write a first draft straight through, then I work on revisions. Sometimes I plan a series in advance and other times it springs from a story that was intended to be a single title. An example of the latter is my Horsemen series. The first book, Dream Stallion, was meant to be a single title, but after I’d finished, I wanted to write more. Earlier this year the seventh book in the series, Mystery Stallion, was released by Ellora’s Cave.

- For fun. What is your favorite kind of chocolate or chocolate dessert? (I love chocolate covered cherries)

I love brownies and homemade chocolate chip cookies.
