he can’t stop himself from touching her, tasting her, loving her. Not when a
wild tempest and a band of ruthless pirates threaten them. Not when every look

AN EXCERPT
Sophia
stood on the bow of the boat in the dark as the wind and rain lashed her face.
She loved it. Loved it. Not only was the storm elemental and fierce, it hid her
tears.
Surely she
hadn’t expected Ned to greet her with open arms. Not when she had barged in on
his adventure as she had. But she certainly hadn’t expected him to be so
horrid. His expression had devastated her.
Foolish girl, it said.
But then,
her heart agreed.
She was
foolish.
Foolish to
ever think that he—
“You’re
soaked.”
She whirled
around, though she knew what she’d see. More glowering.
She was
right.
“What the
hell do you think you’re doing?”
“I’m
reveling.” She thrust out her chin, in case he didn’t believe her.
He gaped at
her. “Reveling?”
“Yes.” She
didn’t mean to shout, but his wintry demeanor annoyed her tremendously. She
threw out her arms. “Look at this!”
“It’s a
storm.”
“It’s
beautiful. The waves are wild, untamed—”
“You could
be swept overboard.”
“The wind
is howling and the rain is savage. It’s glorious.”
“It’s
freezing. Come inside.”
“It’s not
freezing. It’s summer.”
“I’m cold.”
“Then you go inside.”
“Sophia
Fiona—”
“Don’t call
me that.”
“It’s your
name.”
“You sound
like Ewan.”
“I’m
starting to think Ewan is a saint.”
She glared
at him. “What a beastly thing to say.” She hated that her chin wobbled a
little. Hated that he winced.
“I’m sorry,
Sophia. This has been trying for me.” He sluiced the water from his face.
“Won’t you please come inside?”
“All right.
Fine.”
“You will?”
“You did
say please.”
He blew out
a breath and offered her his arm. She frowned at it. “I’m a cabin boy,
remember? You don’t offer a cabin boy your arm.” When he didn’t lower it, she
smacked it. “Someone will see.”
That caught
his attention and he slowly lowered his arm. “Right then. Come inside.” He
followed her back to the cabin, his stride decidedly unsteady. If anyone was
tipping overboard, it was most likely him.
When she
once again stood in his chambers, she realized the folly of her actions. She
hadn’t brought a change of clothes and she was drenched. So was he. Without a
word, he relit the lamp and then opened his trunk and pulled out several
shirts, two of which he tossed to her. “Change.”
That was
it. One word. Just “change” and then he presented her with his back. She huffed
a breath, but did as he asked because she was really rather cold. The feel of
the cloth falling over her chilled flesh warmed her. Because it was his shirt.
It had touched his skin. She wasn’t sure why the thought sent heat scudding
through her belly.
“Use the
other shirt to dry your hair,” he suggested, as he began toweling off as well.
She huffed
a laugh. “All of your clothes will be wet.”
“They’ll
dry. Are you clothed?”
“Yes.”
He turned.
And froze. His gaze locked onto her bare legs. “I-I thought you said you were
clothed.” A squawk.
“I am.” But
the intensity of his stare made her self-conscious, so she slipped into the
bed.
“Close your
eyes,” he said as he unbuttoned the damp linen clinging to his chest.
“Why?”
“I need to
change as well. I’m f-freezing.”
“Okay.” She
did. But she peeked.
He ripped
off his wet shirt and her breath caught at the sight of his broad back. Muscles
rippled as he moved and she swallowed. He was beautiful. He tugged the fresh
shirt over his head and she nearly whimpered as that magnificent vision
disappeared. But then, he unfastened his trousers.
All
pretense of not peeking evaporated.
He sat and
took a moment to work off his boots. And then he stood. His trousers were tight,
as was the fashion, and he had to peel them off. As he bent, she caught a flash
of his bare behind.
She must
have made a noise because he whirled around. His cheek bunched when he saw her
watching. “You’re supposed to have your eyes closed.”
She hunkered
in the covers, as though that would disguise the fact that her eyes were open
wide.
“Sophia…”
It was
probably wrong to grin at him, but she couldn’t help it.
“Sophia
Fiona!”
“Stop
calling me that. It always makes me think I’m in trouble.”
“You are in trouble. You have no idea how
much trouble you’re in.”
She tipped
her head to the side. “We both know Ewan will be so relieved to see me, he’ll
forget how angry he is—”
Ned stilled
and fixed her with a dark glare. “What makes you think I’m talking about Ewan?”
“I… ah…”
“I’ve a
mind to bend you over my knee.”
Why a
shiver rippled through her, she had no idea. She’d been spanked once or twice
as a child and she hadn’t cared for it in the slightest. But something dark and
domineering in Ned’s tone made her womb warm.
“You-you
wouldn’t.”
“Wouldn’t
I? Now, look away. Your brother would skewer me if I gave you the education
you’re about to have.”
She
attempted not to snort. Ned—and everyone—thought her a prim and innocent miss
on account of the polish she’d acquired at Lady Satterlee’s. Nothing could be
further from the truth. As a child, before Ewan had made his fortune, they’d
lived a hand-to-mouth existence in the slums of Perth. She’d seen more than one
couple rutting against a wall in a dingy alleyway. And at one point, she and
her brother had taken refuge in a bordello. She’d been only seven, but if she’d
had an education, she got it there. She could probably teach Ned a few things.
Still,
because he seemed to expect it, she squeezed her eyes tight and didn’t hardly
peek at all as he finished changing. Besides which, the spot she was interested
in was mostly shadows.
With a
great huff, he threw himself back into the chair. “Now, go to sleep.”
“Don’t you
want me to put out the light?”
“No. I want
to be able to see where you are.”
“I’m not
leaving again tonight.” Probably. Unless her despair overcame her once more.
“Leave it
on.” A grunt, and not a very nice one at that. Why he had call to be annoyed,
she couldn’t fathom.
Blast and
damn, he was an annoying man. Sophia grunted as well and rolled over, facing
the wall of the cabin. She studied the patterns the swinging lamp made for a
long while, listening as he shifted one way and then the other.
It was
really unfair for him to have to sleep in the chair. This was his room. But he
would never share her bed. She grimaced at the way the words came out, but it
was true. He wouldn’t. Unless…
She rolled
over again and watched him twist in the chair. He caught her eye and frowned.
“Ned?”
An
impatient groan. “Yes, Sophia?”
“Ned, I’m
cold.”
He stilled.
Then barked, “Put on another blanket.”
“There
aren’t any more.” She faked a shiver. She wasn’t cold in the slightest. She
never was. Ewan said she ran hot. “Brr. My teeth are chattering.”
His glower
became a frown.
“I hope I
don’t get ill.”
He paled.
“You shouldn’t have gone out in the rain. Why did you go out in the rain?”
She
sneezed. Or something like it. “I don’t know.”
“Sophia?”
“Am I
running a fever?” She put her palm to her forehead. “I think I’m running a
fever.”
His brow wrinkled.
He stood and made his way across the tiny chamber as though on his death march.
He set the backs of his fingers to her cheeks. His frown darkened. “You are
warm.”
“No. I’m
cold.” She shivered and peered up at him, her eyes as wide as she could make
them. “Won’t you warm me?”
He wrenched
his hand away as though she’d burned him. “What?”
“Lie here
beside me and warm me up?”
“There’s
not enough room for both of us.”
“I’m
small.”
“Sophia.”
She’d never heard her name in such a strangled voice, not even when Ewan was at
his wit’s end.
“Just for a
bit? You can be on top of the covers. Surely that is decent.”
The muscle
in his cheek bunched again, as though he were grinding his teeth.
“Please?”
He gusted a
sigh. “All right, Sophia. Scoot over and make room.”
She did.
With alacrity.
“And roll
over, facing the wall.”
She frowned
at him “Why?”
“Just do
it. Please.”
“Oh, all
right.” But only because he said please. And because, when she was facing the
other way, he couldn’t see her grin.
He settled
in behind her and a shiver rocked her. He was warm. And he smelled delicious.
Not fishy in the slightest. It was delightful, lying here with him. She closed
her eyes and imagined he wanted this as much as she.
If only. If
only.

NIGHTLORD LOVER Vampires of New Hope
RELEASE DAY!!! I'm so excited about the release of NIGHTLORD LOVER, book one in my vampire series. I'm tentatively calling it Vampires of New Hope because the stories will be set in New Hope, Pennsylvania. It's a historic colonial town on the Delaware River with many old buildings, houses, shops and restaurants. Some houses date back in the 1700s. It's also know as one of the most haunted towns in the world.
ENTER CONTEST AT END
In this story, I have a hitchhiking ghost, and it's based on the true ghost story. While staying at a Bed and Breakfast in an old Victorian house, I learned about a hidden tunnel that ran from the basement to a trapdoor in the floor of a gazebo across the yard (see photo below). It was once part of the Underground Railroad that was used to rescue slaves and help them escape to freedom. I thought what if there were a maze of these tunnels beneath this village? That way vampires could use them to travel during the day? In my story there is also one that crosses beneath the Delaware River. Across the river is where a council of vampire slayers live in peace as long a the vampires don't cross into their territory and don't harm any mortals. And that uneasy alliance is about to be threatened.
A warrior vampire, Garrick, and a sorcerer vampire, Ramon with special powers, want to claim Larissa as their crimson swan--a mortal blood donor with benefits--but they want a willing swan. They're fiercely protective of her from those immortals who would claim her against her will. When the peaceful alliance between vampire slayers and vampires is threatened, Larissa finds herself in the crossfire between mortals and immortals, and torn between two vampire lovers.
BTW the stone on the book cover does has some significance in the book. But it wouldn't be fair to give that away.
Below are some photos taken from the area around New Hope, PA that gave me inspiration for the story and series.

EXCERPT :
Larissa
donned her coat, grabbed a shopping sack and headed onto the crowded streets.
It was dark, early evening, and the sidewalks were still packed. She couldn’t
help but think about Garrick’s warning about the towpath and ghost. It was a
short cut to the store and she didn’t want to leave Jordan alone for long. Not
that she didn’t trust Jordan, but she was new and might not be able to answer a
customer’s question. As she stood by the entrance of the path, two joggers ran
across the parking lot and onto the towpath. See? If it was safe enough for
them, why not her?
Deciding
to ignore Garrick’s warning, she followed the joggers and speed–walked toward the bridge. The trail
was peaceful, a great place to jog and not so isolated that she felt unsafe.
The sounds of traffic and Christmas music in the distance comforted her. The
joggers passed the bridge and were out of sight. Stuffing her hands in her coat
pocket, she hurried along the grassy path.
Under
the bridge, she rushed up the steps leading to the street. Her hands shook when
she entered the small grocery store. She refused to get spooked by
superstitions. She picked up coffee, milk, yogurt and fresh berries. The fruit
was way over priced for this time of year but she needed a taste of summer.
Then she stopped at the wine store for a bottle of merlot. She hoped by
inviting Jordan for dinner, she might find out what she knew about the town and
its mysterious people like Garrick, Ramon and Kashia. On the way home, she took
the canal towpath again, refusing to allow a legend to spook her.
Something
tugged on her hair and she jumped, almost dropping her shopping sack. Laughing,
she gripped onto her bag and marched under the bridge. She was scaring herself
for no reason.
This
time a shadow crossed her path.
“You
will be my crimson slave,” a man’s voice whispered close to her ear. She felt
his breath, felt the touch of his hand on her shoulder. Crying out, Larissa
spun around but no one was there.
She
glanced up and down the path and saw no one running away. To one side was a
wall leading up to the bridge. Even a tall person couldn’t leap to the top. The
only other way off the path was to jump into the canal. She would’ve heard a
splash if the man was crazy enough to do that in this weather. Was it the
ghost, or something else?
Her
body chilled then flashed with heat. A shiver raised goose bumps over her skin.
If it was a ghost then she had nothing to fear. A ghost couldn’t harm her, only
frighten her if she let it.
The
shadow and a breeze sped passed her and Larissa was slammed against the cold
stone wall. All the air rushed out of her lungs and she gasped for a breath to
scream.
The
weight of a muscular body pressed her against the wall as hands moved up her hips
and waist. Oh God, she was going to be raped or murdered or both. With all her
strength she tried to kick, tried to swing her arms to fight, but she was
paralyzed.
Her
pulse thundered in her head. Finally she found the courage to open her eyes and
face her attacker. The Goth guy who was on her balcony. “You.”
“Yes,
little one. I’m claiming you. Taking what’s rightfully mine.” His scorching
gaze moved down her length, kicking up her heartbeat and heating her skin.
Despite the violence, she felt woozy, sensually achy, his touch tempting. Her
head leaned back and rested against the stone, the fight and fear being
replaced by erotic desire.
What
was wrong with her? “What are you doing?” she murmured.
“Wait
and see.” His booted foot shoved her feet apart. A muscular thigh eased between
her legs. The buttons of her coat opened and cold air chilled her body. Fear
rose to the surface again. She shuddered as his mouth glided over her neck,
teeth scraping her skin. “This might hurt a little. It’ll be over quick,” he
said.

Fate has cruelly
torn them apart through the centuries…
Endless desire
and unparalleled love will bring them together a final time.
Through numerous reincarnations, Jade
Jacome has adored one man. His love for her has repeatedly led to her murder,
always on the same day and time. Jade’s scientific research proves this is
their final rebirth, her last chance to outwit destiny and fulfill their
passion. Against a backdrop of Brazil’s lushly decadent Carnaval, Jade has
forty-eight hours to meet and tempt her lover, now known as Patrick Kane, then
break fate’s deadly pattern.
Irresistibly drawn to Rio, Patrick
senses Jade’s yearning that matches his. Seeing her again, time stops. Though
they’ve never met in this life, he feels their connection, and that she’s in
danger because of him. Baffled and unsettled, Patrick resists his attraction to
Jade to keep her safe.
In a contest of wills and shameless
seduction, Jade must gamble all, even her life, before the anniversary of their
first separation or risk losing Patrick forever.
Excerpt #2:
Jade regarded the young women who’d
spoken to Patrick. The one on the right snatched his tee and pressed it to her
nose. Her girlfriends reacted with surprise, dismay, jealousy, then all of them
fell back to their towels, laughing loudly.
Their happiness touched Jade. She wanted
the same for herself and Patrick. Turning to the sea, she spotted him. His
strong, solid strokes took him farther from shore and her.
Jade followed for a few feet then
stopped, warning herself against joining Patrick, telling him she was the woman
he’d searched for when he’d moved down the beach. Her confession might flood
him with too many painful memories, which would make her seduction that much
more difficult.
When he saw her again, she needed him to
recall a warm summer day in 1510, moments after he’d finished his swim. He’d
stood in a shallow part of the stream then, the water reaching just above his
knees. Beads of moisture dripped from his eyebrows, stubble, and long dark
lashes. Sun drizzled through thick stands of cork and olive trees, dappling his
broad shoulders with flecks of golden light. With his head lowered, he’d
scooped water then flung it beneath his arms.
Secretly, she’d watched him, as she had
for weeks, ever since he’d arrived at her papĂ¡’s castle to tutor her younger
brothers.
His tall, strong body had intrigued her
from the start, along with his educated voice, sculpted features, and bearing
with his charges.
Unlike her papĂ¡’s other servants, he
didn’t defer to her brothers, indulging their every whim. With a firm but fair
hand, he’d schooled them in advanced mathematics, Latin, Greek, science,
horsemanship, and other physical pursuits. At those times, he’d worn only a
linen shirt and hose as he ran and played with them. Grinning broadly, he’d
ruffled her brothers’ dark hair when they performed to his satisfaction.
She began to imagine his smile directed
at her, his touch belonging to no one else.
At night, she dreamt of him. During the
day, she couldn’t think of anything else, consumed with everything he did.
Where he slept, what he ate, how he enjoyed his few moments of freedom from her
brothers and her papĂ¡’s demands.
Clearly, he enjoyed bathing in the
stream, rather than the iron tub in the castle. As though he preferred to be
outdoors because it allowed him to be alone. Or so he thought.
Water poured through his fingers as he
finally sensed her. His hand remained suspended in air as he forgot to bring it
to his chest.
Slowly, as though uncertain at what he
might see, he’d lifted his face and stared at the hem of her yellow gown. The
insistent breeze had pulled the linen away from her legs and around the tree
trunk where she’d been hiding.
A warning registered in her mind,
telling her to yank the garment back, then turn and run, not stopping until she
reached the chapel. There, god would expect her to feel badly for what she’d
witnessed.
Carnal desire proved more powerful and
compelling than eternal damnation, trapping her where she stood. With her palms
on the stout ancient tree, she leaned to the left, knowing he’d see her face,
not caring if he did. All she could do was drink in his powerful male form—his
flat nipples, as richly brown as the earth, the dark tufts of hair beneath his
arms, the silky strands swirling around his navel then trickling to his groin.
Flushed with embarrassment, fevered with
need, she stared at his male organ, captivated as it lengthened and hardened
before her eyes, the skin growing dusky, the head rounded and so plump his skin
seemed in danger of splitting.
When she finally glanced up, she forgot
to breathe. In his dark eyes, she saw desire to match her own. The promise of
what life should be, not what her papĂ¡ had planned for her with the count. A
man she could barely stand.
Trembling with excitement, she stepped
from behind the trunk and faced him.
Beneath his lust, she saw how bewildered
he was. He had no idea who she might be or where she belonged. Although he’d
lived at her papĂ¡’s castle for weeks, there was no reason for her father to
have introduced them. He was a mere tutor, she even less. A female relegated to
the shadows, ordered to be quiet and meek until her nuptials.
Undeniable
need drew her closer to him, a sense of destiny singing in her blood.
