Military Heroes- We All Know One or Several- #tenmilitaryheroes

I’m so excited that ROMANCING THE MILITARY MAN releases today!!!

Most everyone knows someone in the military—a family member, a friend or a loved one. Military men and women make many sacrifices and so do their families. Please feel free to share your loved one’s name in my comments so we can all send them good wishes, thoughts and prayers.

In our collection of stories we each have a romantic and adventurous story with a military hero. Each story is different so there should be something for everyone if you like these types of stories. At the beginning of the box set, we have the name of the book, the author and a blurb so you can go directly to the ones that interest you the most.

Please share your real life story with your military hero here!

Here’s one of mine: Military friend Rick and Dan- Navy and scuba instructors

I could share a few, but today I was remembering two Navy guys I worked with in Florida. Rick and Dan. Before I met them, when I was a kid we lived by a lake and I was a fish. You couldn’t get me out of the water. I’d swim all day until my lips were blue and my mom would yell for me to get out. My dad was a Navy diver and he let me use his equipment in the lake without formal training (he was there and watched me). This was the old double hose regulator, a mask that leaked because it was too big of course, fins too big also so I had to scrunch my toes or they would fall off. With my dad’s scuba gear all hooked up, I swam around the lake underwater like I was part fish and made believe I was a mermaid.

Then many years later, as an adult and living in Florida, I decided to take up scuba and get certified. I figured scuba diving would be a piece of cake. I did it as a kid with ancient equipment so this should be easy, right? Wrong! I was a klutz, kept sucking in water, couldn’t get my buoyancy right. With practice though, I did get my confidence and skills down and kept taking classes.

Rick and Dan encouraged me and I became a dive master, then helped to train other students. As a dive master, I had to assist several distressed divers and had a couple scary rescues in the ocean. Some months Rick and Dan would be deployed and I wouldn’t see them. Then one day while I was living in Fort Lauderdale, FL, I got a call. Their ship, the USS Eisenhower, an aircraft carrier, was coming into port. They wanted me do go out on a dive as their dive master. They were finishing advanced training with a number of guys on the ship. Not Navy Seals, just regular scuba lessons for PADI certification.

We did the dives off of Ft. Lauderdale and got the guys their certifications. Afterward, Rick asked me for a favor with his smirk that I knew well. (I’d worked with these guys for years and they were good friends). I thought he wanted me to do another class tomorrow. Nope. He wanted to know if these guys could come back to my apartment to shower so they could go out that evening for a little nightlife. Fort Lauderdale does have plenty of that. I told him I only have a one bedroom apartment and one bath. There were eight guys plus Rick and Dan! He assured me they would be perfect gentleman and it would be fine. They guys didn’t want to go back to the ship. I said I’d be happy to have them over if they didn’t mind sharing the one bathroom.

Rick laughed. He said they were used to close quarters on the ship.

It was early so I invited them to hang by the pool. Ha! I got some interesting looks and envious ones at that when I walked through the pool gate in my apartment complex followed by ten hunky Navy guys in bathing suits!!!

We ordered a pile of pizzas and the guys started getting ready to go out. I said don’t worry I’ll clean up and the guys said, “No, we got this. Go sit.”

I watched in awe as two guys went into my bathroom at a time and came out in record time, cleaned, shaved, and changed, while the others cleaned my kitchen, washed dishes, put them away, took out the trash, even washed the counters and kitchen floor!

After ten hunky Navy guys went through my bathroom, I figured I’d have a mess in there. I didn’t mind, these guys were nice and even called me, “Miss Kathy.” Bless their hearts.

They thanked me when they left and gave me hugs. When I checked out the bathroom, I was shocked. You would never have believed that 10 guys just took showers, shaved, etc. It was spotless. Not one drop of water on the floor, no soap remnants in the shower or sink. Every towel neatly folded.

Great times diving with Rick and Dan. I even got a tour on the USS Eisenhower. But then that’s another story…

Lynn LaFleur’s Favorite Season for FALLING IN LOVE

Autumn is my favorite season of the year for several reasons:

The colors. All the reds and golds and oranges of the leaves turning colors are simply breathtaking. I live in North Texas, where only a few variety of trees actually change color in autumn. I’m surrounded by mountain cedars and live oaks, which stay green all year long. But those trees that do turn color are spectacular.

The cooler weather. Our summers are hot and humid. Most of us breathe a sigh of relief when the weather starts to turn cooler. Finally, we can walk outside without feeling as if we’re hit in the face with a wet washcloth!

Football. And no, those tight pants the players wear have nothing to do with why I love the sport. Okay, maybe a little.

Halloween and Thanksgiving and Christmas. (I know Christmas is technically a winter holiday, but don’t burst my bubble.) Those holidays mean fun for the kids, togetherness for family, lots of good food, and laughter. Who doesn’t love watching a child open a present on Christmas morning?

Autumn also means more time inside for reading. I love to curl up in my recliner with a cup of hot tea and an afghan thrown over my lap while I get lost in an author’s world.

I hope you’ll get lost in *my* world and enjoy one of my books. Here’s a little taste of “Worth the Wait”, from the Falling in Love boxed set, available today.

Lindsay drew her bottom lip farther between her teeth when she saw Sam unlock the door to the storeroom. She glanced around the bar, searching for the other bartender. She didn’t see him, but she could hear what sounded like dishes being shifted and stacked in the kitchen.

She had no idea how long Sam would be in that storeroom. If she did something, it had to be now.

Don’t be a wimp, Lindsay. Go for it.

Lindsay sipped her Coke and took a deep breath. Grabbing her purse, she rose and strode to the storeroom.

She stepped into a room larger than she’d expected. Long and wide, shelves sat along all the walls and down the middle, holding boxes of liquor and glassware. She saw a door straight ahead of her that she assumed led to the kitchen, or perhaps opened for deliveries. She couldn’t see Sam, but she could hear bottles rattling.

Laying her purse on top of a case of bourbon, she pushed the door shut and flipped the deadbolt.

The rattling stopped. “Monte?” Sam called out.

Lindsay leaned back against the door, her hands behind her for support. “No, it isn’t Monte.”

Several seconds passed before he appeared at the end of the middle shelves.

Lindsay said nothing and neither did he. She watched his gaze slowly move over her from head to feet and back again. Her heart pounded as if she’d done an hour of hard exercise. Sweat formed on her palms while her mouth became dry. She waited for him to move closer, but he remained still.

The first move had to be hers.

Blurb:
When she’s good, she’s very good. But when he’s bad, she’s better.
Taming the Beast, Book 2

As a good fairy, Heather is empathetic and chaste to a fault. No bad language, no dirty thoughts, flirting and no sex. But when a satyr named Daemon steps up to her reception desk at From Crud to Stud, she finds herself on the fast track to exquisite corruption.
Daemon is the total bad-boy package with a kiss straight from the dark side. Though he’s here for a supernatural makeover, Heather can’t imagine why any red-blooded woman would want him to change.
A disciple of the god of wine, Daemon has had his share of good times. But sex has never been this good. Heather brings out a new side of him, a side that makes him want to protect as well as pillage.
But Daemon needs a little creative backup to help set his fairy’s naughtiness free. And that means bringing in Mistress Jin. Under the genie’s tutelage and Daemon’s shameless lust, Heather is about to learn what it means to let loose.
Warning: Not your typical bedtime story. May lead to indecent behavior, a taste for voyeurism, discipline, bondage, m/f, m/f/f and f/f action, which will result in screaming orgasms. Proceed with caution.

Excerpt:

Her mouth was wonderfully loose beneath his, her kiss not as tentative or virginal as Daemon had expected. Not that he’d had a lot of experience with untried maidens. When he was young and clueless, the older nymphs had set him on a path of carnal pleasure, running him down, crawling all over him until he submitted.
He hadn’t fought hard. Before any of those babes could blink, he’d plunged his rigid rod into them. The younger nymphs had watched, and when it was his turn to test and tame their innocent flesh, they’d been as skilled as he was. A real bummer for a guy who needed the thrill of the chase and a conquest.
Slanting his mouth for greater penetration, Daemon deepened the kiss. Heather wreathed her arms around his neck and suckled his tongue as if she’d been born for the task. Hot damn. She was the first fairy he’d tasted, and was she ever luscious, a combination of something minty, possibly toothpaste or candy, and something far better…ethereal, if you will. Like the faint scent of a flower carried on a breeze, the taste of a raindrop, the heated caress of a sunrise.
Best of all, she smelled of something powdery, pure and sweet.
Growling with intolerable need, he filled her mouth even more with his tongue, wanting to rip off her dainty clothes, get down to business, forget the foreplay or the thought of being a nice guy. In Couturie, all it took was one look from him and a nymph would assume the position, so to speak. Or she’d blindside him while they were rolling across the forest floor and take whatever she wanted, with that having nothing to do with sweetness and charm.
Heather was so gentle and soft, his body throbbed with need. He pulled her closer. She stiffened, made a sound like a wounded animal and pushed the heels of her hands against his shoulders. His lust punched up several more notches. Cupping her small breast, he thumbed her nipple.
Heather tore her mouth from his and gasped, “Stop.”
Daemon didn’t want to but dropped his hand, thinking the challenge would make this even hotter. He waited a few moments. Nope. Now, he was frustrated. “Why?”
“We’re strangers.” Her breath skipped across his chest, making his skin tingle. “We don’t even know each other’s last names.”
“I don’t have one.” He lifted his hand, his fingers itching to squeeze her breast again. “Do you?”
“Well, no, but—stop.”
Daemon huffed out a sigh and settled his hand on her ass rather than her boob.
She sighed lustily and trembled. “That’s not much better.”
Maybe not for her, but gripping her nicely rounded ass was doing wicked things to his shaft. The damn thing was so hard his skin was about to split.
“Please,” Heather said.
Crap. Like a good boy, Daemon did as she wanted, running his knuckles down her velvety cheek instead.
Heather lifted her face to his. Her eyes were a fragile green softened even more with gray, her waist-length hair the color of moonlight, silky and thick, her expression filled with too much honesty and trust.
“Better?” he murmured
“Well, no. I liked what you were doing, but it’s wrong. So thanks for stopping.” She pecked his mouth and paused before brushing her lips over his.
Both of them stopped breathing at the same time. Before he could close his eyes, Heather clearly surrendered to base desire and pushed her tongue into his mouth.
Daemon groaned and growled, unable to make enough noise to convey the heat burning within him, his hunger for her. They turned in slow circles, each of them trying to get closer, his hooves clomping on the tile, her slippers slapping delicately.
Outside, thunder boomed, rattling the window. Across the hall, something let out a blood-curdling shriek. The door flew open.
“Oh, hell, no,” a female barked, her voice so guttural Daemon felt the vibrations in his belly. “Get your hands off her.”

I’m actually featured in the 2012 Novel & Short Story Writer’s Market. Talk about feeling like a freaking star. Before my writing career, I was the editor of an award–winning Midwestern newspaper and worked in Story Direction for a Hollywood production company. Outside of being an admitted and unrepentant chocoholic, I’ve flown a single-engine plane (scary stuff), rewired an old house using an electricity for dummies book, and have been known to moan like Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally whenever I’m eating anything Mexican or Italian. Hannah and the Highlander by Sabrina York

Hannah and the Highlander by Sabrina York
First in a brand-new series about the bold, brawny men of the Scottish Highlands--and the lovely lasses who bring them to their knees…
Coming September 1st

Highlanders are her weakness.

Hannah Dounreay has no time for suitors who only seem interested in her family's land, which she manages as well as any man. If she marries, she wants to be loved for the educated, independent woman she is. But when a strong, silent--and spectacularly handsome--Highlander saves her from a violent attack, her heart is stirred. Who is this man? And if he asks for Hannah's hand, will she be able to resist him?

Love is the most powerful weapon of all.

Alexander Lochlannach, Laird of Dunnet, has no time to lose. The Highlands are in an uproar as clans battle for land--without mercy--and Alexander can't afford to fall for the wildly attractive, strong-willed Hannah. What's more, he has a desperate secret, one that could destroy them both. But as their attraction turns into an all-consuming passion, Alexander has no choice but to prove to Hannah that he's the only man for her--body and soul…

Read an excerpt:

Egads. She wants to speak with him before the wedding…

The door opened immediately, as though she’d been standing there waiting. At the sight of her, his heart stalled and his throat tightened. She had this effect on him each and every time he saw her. God, she was so beautiful.
Her eyes widened, as though she was surprised to see him, which befuddled him, because she’d asked him to come. Then her gaze raked him. He liked to think that look in her eye was a glimmer of appreciation. “Dunnet,” she said. “You’re . . . dressed.”
Aye. Dressed for a wedding. He couldn’t help but notice she was not.
“Lady . . . Hannah.” He bowed. “You wanted to . . . talk?”
She nodded briskly and opened the door wider, stepping back to allow him to enter. He did so and closed the door behind him. The click was deafening. It was not lost on him that he was in her bedchambers. His gaze flicked to the bed. It was slightly rumpled. That made him feel slightly rumpled as well.
This was not the time for his passion to rise.
It did.
“Thank you for coming,” she said, turning away to pace. “I know you are prepared to marry . . . forthwith.” He had no idea why she emphasized the word as she did. “But before we exchange our vows, I have some things that I need to say.”
He nodded, even as relief gushed through him.
She hadn’t changed her mind.
And if she had things to say, he should probably stay silent. And listen.
“You and I need to have an understanding.”
“An . . . understanding?”
“Aye.” His hope was supplanted by a hint of disappointment when she said in a very businesslike tone, “We both know this is a marriage of convenience.”
His gaze snapped to her face. Ernest though her expression was, it lacked the dreamy, romantic tinge a groom might hope for. In fact, she set her chin and shot him a very unromantic glance.
A marriage of convenience? A cold, heartless, distant union? Denial howled. Suddenly, to his surprise, he found he wanted something very different. He longed to respond, to cry out his dissent, but his throat locked.
“There is no reason to pretend this is something other than it is. I agreed to marry you because Dounreay needs your protection and you agreed to marry me for my lands. We are marrying for no other reason. Aye. I understand that. We understand that.”
Nae. We understood nothing of the sort. There was another reason he was determined to marry her, did she but realize.
He wanted her.
“Regardless, Dunnet, my wish is for a peaceful union.”
Peaceful. Aye. Peaceful was good.
“I should like for us to work together as a team. In partnership.”
Aye. He had a partnership in mind. . . .
“If I’m going to pledge myself to a man forever, I need to know that he will respect me. That he will honor my wishes. I need to know he will take my counsel into account.” She fixed Alexander with a steady gaze, as though she expected a response. So he nodded.
She was so beautiful, so earnest. So tantalizing.
He stepped closer, intent on his target.
Her eyes widened as he neared. Her hand on his chest stalled his approach and her brow wrinkled. Her gaze flicked to his mouth and her tongue peeped out, wetting her lips, igniting a flame in his belly. With great effort, she ripped her gaze away and frowned. “Do you agree to my terms?” she asked.
He cupped her cheek and angled her head up. Her breath caught. Her features froze as she realized his intent. “Aye,” he said. “Aye.” And then he did what he’d been thinking about for weeks. What he’d been obsessing over all day. He kissed her.
And it was glorious.

A shiver rippled over Hannah’s skin as Dunnet took her mouth. His taste, his scent, infused her. It was a light kiss, a testing foray, but it sent an unholy thrill through her and left her wanting one thing. More.
She had wanted this chance to speak with him privately, to receive his assurances that their marriage would be a partnership, to set her mind at rest, and he’d done that. But if she was being truthful . . . something like this had been on her mind as well, skulking there behind her noble intentions, a roiling hunger. A curiosity. A need.
She’d kissed him before and he had turned away. She desperately needed to know if, in his heart, he had any passion for her whatsoever.
He lifted his head—way too soon—and stared down at her. “Hannah . . . ” he murmured.
Even as she attempted to rein in her disappointment at his withdrawal, his hold on her cheek tightened, his eyes narrowed, and he issued a noise, something gruff and deep, something that sent a lick of exhilaration through her.
He yanked her closer. The feel of his body against hers, rigid and unyielding, made her head spin. His fingers threaded through her hair and he held her steady as his head descended again. She sucked in a breath, quivering with anticipation.
And ah. Ah.
This kiss was different.
This wasn’t tentative in the slightest. It was a taking. A mad, starved consummation of her mouth with his, a melding of lips and tongue and need.
This was as wild as the windy squalls off the coast. As tantalizing as the fairy wisps at dusk. As scorching as the forge where razor-sharp steel was tempered and formed.
And it cut through her like a screaming wind, an enticing magic, a warm blade.
Scuttles of heat rose in her womb. Rivulets of excitement danced in her veins. His taste filled her senses, her mouth, her soul.
When he lifted his head, a glimmer danced in his eye. It was the look of a conquering hero, a savage Scotsman, a man whose hunger had been sated but ignited at the same time.
Oh heavens.
Exultation whipped through her. Her knees were weak and her body melted.
Damn her reservations.
Damn her fears.
Damn her doubts about whether or not he really wanted her.
She wanted him. And she would have him.
It was gratifying to see that he was not unaffected. His breath came heavy and hard and there was a slight tremble in his voice when he spoke. It was one word and one word only, forced out and wreathed in a growl, but it was enough.
“Mine.”

Falling in Love is Worth the Wait -Hot Novellas Collection

With the lineup of authors in this sexy romantic collection of novellas, it’s easy to see why this will be an auto-buy for me! So many of my favorite authors and author friends who I can highly recommend.
Coming September 22.
The amazing Syneca Featherstone has done the cover. I looove her work. And can’t wait to add this one to my Kindle.
Lynn LaFleur is my very good friend so I’m going to talk about her story: Worth the Wait
BLURB: Past relationships that ended in heartbreak have left Lindsay Cunningham ready to give up on men altogether. She’d always waited for the men to ask her out, believing women shouldn’t be pushy. That changes the evening of her thirtieth birthday, when she has dinner at her favorite restaurant and bar with girlfriends. Tired of constantly being meek, she approaches the sexy bartender and offers him a wild night of uninhibited sex.

The night is much more than simply sex for Sam McKeifer. He wants a future with Lindsay. Unfortunately, he has no idea how to find her when he awakes the next morning and discovers she’s left.
With help from two of his employees, Sam finds Lindsay. Now he has to help her tear down the walls that surround her bruised heart. Only then will she realize true love is worth the wait.
(Previously published as One Thing to Give. The set also contains stories by Suz DeMello, Tina Donahue, Ann Jacobs, Ari Thatcher, PJ Alderman, KyAnn Waters, and Kathryn Lively.)
Pre-Order on

Excerpt:
He took a key ring from his pocket, unlocked the door. She caught a glimpse of cases of liquor on shelves since he left the door ajar a few inches.
I wonder what he’d do if I went in there with him, closed the door, and attacked him?
Lindsay took a sip of her fresh Coke. As if she’d ever do anything like that. She couldn’t possibly consider having sex with a man when their entire conversation had consisted of less than ten sentences.
But then, why not?
Lindsay had never been shy, but she considered herself conservative. She’d never had sex with a man on the first date. She’d never asked a man out, believing he should be the one to take the first step. Her girlfriends all called her old-fashioned and said she should move into the twenty-first century where women had no problem asking a man out.
Maybe she should. Maybe it was time for her to do something she’d never done, something totally out of her character.
Lindsay unzipped her purse and peeked inside at the three condoms her girlfriend, Rita Moore, had pushed across the table at dinner. The four women had been talking about sex—one of Rita’s favorite topics—and she had calmly laid the condoms on the table with instructions for Lindsay to “use them.”
Her other friends had giggled while Lindsay quickly scooped them up and stuck them in her purse, mortified that Rita had done that in a public place. Yet, she’d also been intrigued by the thought of picking up a man she’d just met and having wild, uninhibited sex.
Glancing toward the bar, she saw that Sam had returned to work. She felt a strong attraction to him, no doubt of that. And the way he’d looked at her when he brought her the Coke made her believe he felt an attraction, too.
So, what’s stopping you, Lindsay?
Sam no longer being in the storeroom, for one thing. She couldn’t very well start tearing off his clothes with customers watching their every move.
Lindsay looked at her watch. Eleven-twenty. A few people remained in the bar, but the restaurant had finally emptied except for two couples. The Saloon closed at midnight. She had forty more minutes left of her birthday. She wanted it to end with a special present.
She wanted it to end with Sam inside her.
