Featured Author Lynn LaFleur

Today I have a good friend and fellow Ellora's Cave author Lynn LaFleur visiting the Passion Sense Blog to share a blurb and excerpt (a sneak peek) of her new book coming out on February 21st. I've had the pleasure to sit next to Lynn during a couple book signings and she's always a bubbly, friendly person. Not to mention an awesome author.
Lynn was also interviewed in Kathy Kulig's February Passion Sense Newsletter I've included a sneak peek of the interview in this post. Clink on the newsletter link if you'd like to subscribe to the once a month newsletter to read the full interview. Besides Lynn's interview, you'll find bonus contests, news, excerpts and more.

Interview sneak peek:
- What is your writing schedule like?
I write at least five days a week. I don’t have a set schedule, but do write several hours a day. Some days, when the words are flowing, I’ll write longer. On the days when the words are being stubborn, I’ll get away from the computer and do other paperwork or scrapbook. Sometimes I’ll even clean my house.

- Which actor screams SEXY to you?

Hugh Jackman. Handsome, great body, and that accent. Wow.

- Do you write full time or work outside of the home?
I gave up my day job three years ago to write full-time. I’m having the best time in my life!

-Do you write a novel straight through? Or revise as you go? Plan a whole series in advance? Or does the series evolve?
I write straight through and revise as I go. I’m a slow writer, but by the time I finish a chapter, it’s usually a final and doesn’t need a lot of revisions. The series I’ve written are planned in advance. I figure out the characters and the basic idea for the plot. After that, I let the characters tell their stories.

Blurb: The Birthday Gift
by Lynn LaFleur
ISBN: 9781419932427
http://www.jasminejade.com/ps-8985-50-the-birthday-gift.aspx

What does a man give the woman of his dreams for her birthday? Her fantasy, of course. When Amanda admits to her husband that she'd like to be part of a ménage a trois, Jake isn’t sure if he could ever share his wife with another man.

Then his cousin Patrick comes for a visit.

Excerpt:

Patrick came back a moment later carrying one of her older quilts and a white plastic bottle. He set the bottle on the coffee table before spreading out the quilt on the floor. Amanda wondered how he’d found the quilt so quickly in the upstairs linen closet, and where he’d gotten that bottle.

A tiny bit of suspicion began to grow inside her head.

Jake squeezed her shoulders. “Lie down, babe.”

Amanda watched Patrick drop to his knees at one end of the quilt before she rose from the couch and walked the short distance around the coffee table. She wasn’t sure if she should do this. A massage on her back and feet would feel wonderful, but she knew her own body…and how she reacted when Jake touched her. She loved her husband and desired him fiercely. It wouldn’t take but a few moments of his hands on her before she’d be breathing heavy and trying not to moan. If she embarrassed herself in front of Patrick, she’d never be able to face him again.

Jake circled the coffee table and also dropped to his knees at the opposite end of the quilt from Patrick. He patted the floor in front of him. “C’mere.”

Get your mind out of the gutter. This is your husband and his cousin doing something nice for your birthday. This has absolutely nothing to do with sex and you have no reason to be suspicious.

The pep talk she gave herself helped Amanda relax. She stretched out on the quilt, resting her head on her folded arms.

“Hey, Pat, grab one of those thick pillows off the couch. Amanda needs one under her stomach since her tits are so big.”

Amanda raised her head and glared at her husband. “Jake!”

“Well, it’s true. You always put a pillow under your stomach.”

“You don’t have to broadcast that fact to Patrick.”

“You don’t think he knows you have big tits? He isn’t blind.”

The teasing gleam in Jake’s eyes made Amanda shake her head. “Good grief,” she muttered. She pulled the pillow that Patrick tossed on the floor under her stomach and rearranged herself to a comfortable position. “After a comment like that, I’d better get a damned good massage.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Jake touched her shoulders again. A moment later, she felt Patrick’s hands on her left foot. His fingers slid easily over her skin, so he must be using the liquid in that white bottle. Amanda sighed contentedly and closed her eyes. Heaven couldn’t possibly be any better than this.

Jake pressed the heels of his hands into her shoulders, her upper back, her middle back. Amanda relaxed more with every stroke…until she felt his hands on her bare back, above the waistband of her shorts. She opened her eyes a crack. She had a perfect close-up view of Jake’s crotch…and the large bulge there.

Obviously, she wasn’t the only one affected by her massage.

Amanda’s mouth watered with the desire to unzip Jake’s shorts and lick him from the head of his cock to his balls. She loved taking him in her mouth, feeling him swell as his desire grew. If Patrick wasn’t here…

Realizing Patrick was here made her concentrate again on his touch. His hands were no longer massaging her feet, but were sliding up and down the backs of her legs in a slow caress.

Heat began to build low in Amanda’s tummy.

“Raise up a little, babe.”

Not thinking anything of his request, Amanda raised her torso a few inches off the floor. Jake pulled her T-shirt up to her shoulder blades. When she felt her bra strap tighten as if he planned to unsnap it, she quickly scrambled up to her knees.

“Okay, what’s going on here?”

Jake glanced at his cousin. Amanda quickly swung her gaze to Patrick and back to Jake. The two men exchanged a look…a look of conspiracy. “We’re giving you a massage,” Jake said. “Isn’t that what you wanted?”

“This is more than just a massage, Jake. Patrick was nowhere near my feet and you were about to unsnap my bra. I want to know what you’re doing.”

Jake remained quiet a moment, then he cradled her face in his hands and kissed her tenderly. “Fulfilling your fantasy.”

Double HOT Friday?

Click here to view larger image     Click here to view larger image
January 28th two HOT books released in the
1-800-DOM-help author series:

The premise for the 1-800-DOM-help arose from a “what if” question and the discovery of a similar number that made Lise Fuller share it with some author friends. And they thought, “Wow, that would make for a great series concept!” So the authors took it a step further: What if a dominant or submissive needed help with their significant other? From there, they developed a “help line” for dominants and submissives to call. The help line is used if someone needs help dealing with a problem or if they want to connect with a new partner.

Fettered Love by Michelle Polaris new from Ellora's Cave.
ISBN: 9781419932854

Both are available at Ellora's Cave

Fettered Love is a book in the 1-800-DOM-help author series. If you're curious about BDSM, both of these books are highly recommended. Check out the blurb

Blurb: Kirk, Master to his long-time lover Evan, decides it’s time to place his permanent collar around Evan’s sexy cock. But when he proposes, he faces a surprise. Evan wants a child. So where will they find a kinky woman to help?

A mysterious card with the 1-800-DOM-help number advertises assistance for unusual problems in the BDSM community. When Evan calls, he recognizes the voice of Sarah—Kirk’s best friend from childhood, Evan’s Mistress of several years in college. They both loved her and suffered betrayal when she walked out of their lives.

Now she proposes to be the mother of their child. No strings, just a chance to have the men she respects and loves back in her life. Evan embraces the idea while Kirk rages with mistrust.

At Evan’s request, they share one night of passion, Kirk and Sarah working together to dominate Evan in the scene of his erotic fantasies, hoping it will be enough to rekindle trust and make all their dreams come true. Check out the hot trailer for Controlling Interest at the end.

Blurb: Mozelle “Mouse” Vincent inherits money, a club and her boss’ son as a business partner when society leader Regine Stuart dies. Torin Stuart knows what his late mother’s wishes were for his exclusive BDSM club, Erotically Bound, but he’s pissed that he’s forced to trust Mouse—especially when her inherently submissive nature arouses the sexual Dominant in him.

After baring all in a heated, intense scene, Mouse realizes they still have to work together, but now Tor challenges any business suggestion she makes. When she wants to offer education classes, Tor dares her to organize the class and participate—as a submissive.

To his chagrin, Mouse agrees, but he can’t stand the thought of any other Dom touching her. Suddenly there’s far more at stake than the controlling interest in their club…because love is the ultimate prize in their power exchange.

New Adventures & New Digs

Harry Houdini

New Adventure? I'm not as adventurous as Harry Houdini but I've been busy with an exciting new project for Ellora's Cave and that's why I’ve been behind on blogging. It's a new adventure because this story is a little different from my usual work. There's still passion and adventure, and I think you'll fall in love with the characters. It was a fun and challenging story to write. If accepted, this book will be part of the 1-800-DOM-help author series. http://1800domhelp.blogspot.com Keep your fingers crossed. I’ll keep you posted.

1 800 DOM helpThe premise of the stories of this series involves the mysterious appearance of a business card with the text: ‘1-800-DOM-help’ written on the card. The card will appear to someone—a Dom/Domme or sub who is in need of a special kind of help in his or her D/s relationship. Upon calling the number an Operator will assist them and may guide them to a club called Unfettered.

That’s the basics for the world building, except for a few common characters. It’s amazing to see the creativity of the authors in coming up with a variety of erotic BDSM themes to fit. The locations are different and there are MM, MMF, and MF stories so far. They also contain both male and female Dominants and submissives. The stories are hot, edgy and emotionally satisfying reads.

Althought I do have elements of BDSM in some of my published stories, for this one, I needed to do a lot more research to better understand the lifestyle and dynamics of a D/s relationship. EC authors are great sources for research. I read a number of their books and got recommendations for non-fiction books and also checked out the BDSM and fetish communities on-line. Of course, my interpretation may not be someone else’s interpretation, especially someone who’s a part of that lifestyle. And it’s a fantasy, it’s fiction. The true test will be what the readers think. If it flies, and the readers (and my editor) likes it, I have a couple more ideas in the same setting.

The next question is, while I finish editing this book to send off to my editor, which book do I start working on next? I’m in the middle of two projects a demon book (the third in my Demons in Exile series) and a vampire book. Any preferences???

My new digs?: Is actually a new desk. I have a new writer’s cave!! YAY! For Christmas I received a new desk with credenza, hutch, L-shaped table, filing cabinet, corner table and wall unit (bookcase). The wood stain matches the hardwood floors and wood trim in the spare bedroom. I have three big windows to look out of and the best part is my dining room gets turned back into a dining room. I’ve been using it as my office for seven years. What do you think?

Okay, so Demon book next? Or Vampire book?

CONTEST REMINDER: Don't forget to check out the post on January 9th for details on how to win a copy of Secret Soiree or a surprise print book. Leave a comment and include your email or send me your email and I'll add you in the drawing on Valentine's Day. Details on my website too. http://www.kathykulig.com/

REWARDING THE AWARD

How Did I Get This?
Err, no, not the guy. I just liked the pic and needed something to warm me up on this bitter cold January day. What I got was this: The Versatile Blogger Award. Not as exciting as the guy but a nice thought from fellow Ellora's Cave author and friend Nina Pierce.

There are 200,000,000 blogs in cyberspace and 54% post content or Tweet daily. Wow! Now I know why I don’t get 30 or 40 comments on my blog posts. The competition is fierce and it’s hard coming up with interesting, compelling content while at the same time trying to write books. I do appreciate those who do take the time to visit my Passion Sense Blog and post comments. And I have a SPECIAL THANK YOU CONTEST at the end of this post for visiting.

By accepting this award there’s a catch. I have to share seven personal things about me. (eeeks!) And pass on this award to some other lucky blogger. This is a fun way for people to check out blogs they might’ve missed. So, here are my seven things that came to mind:
1. I love to travel but my absolute favorite place to vacation is by the ocean, whether it's Cape Cod, the Jersey shore, Florida or the Caribbean.

2. I was a bit of a tomboy as a kid. I built model airplanes with my dad, made a fishing pole out of a tree branch, string and a safety pin (and caught fish), and plucked frogs and crayfish out of the brook and swamp near my house.

3. I attended parochial school and hated it. I had to keep my hair short, wear ugly uniforms and didn’t have many friends. (You couldn’t talk except at recess, so how could you make friends?) My only reprieve was that I could pick out my new shoes every year. I always picked out the most outrageous shoes. One pair I remember were lime green with funky laces. In 6th grade the school decided to switch the dress code to saddle shoes. (ugh!) I cried and begged my mother to let me go to public school where most of my friends went anyway. She did. It’s all about the shoes.

4. In 9th grade I gave up playing the glockenspiel (the bells) in the band, to twirl a baton and ended up captain a few years later. Short skirt, boots were always my thing. Again, it’s all about the shoes.

5. Later, I went to a Catholic all girls’ college. It didn’t matter what shoes I wore. I worked three jobs and went to school full time. Who had time to care about shoes?

6. My first published work was an article about astral projecting in a New Age magazine called Night Vision and was later reprinted in another magazine called Connecting Link. A Native American shaman sent me a letter congratulating me on the article. My first fan letter.

7. I once lived on a dairy farm in a mobile home in upstate New York. No cable TV and the TV only had two channels. The area had one radio station and it aired for only 12 hours a day. I was lucky to get a phone, it took a month to get hooked up and had a two-party line. Many people probably don’t even know what that is. This wasn’t that long ago either–the 1980s.

As the Versatile Blogger Award goes, I’d like to thank Nina Pierce for the award and hope you’ll check out her blog, and I pass this award onto another writer friend and Ellora’s Cave author Amber Skyze. Please check out her blog too.

               * Amber Skyze
               * Nina Pierce

The Best Of 2010, Books, Movies and Tunes

The Best of 2010

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a happy and safe holiday season. I see many good things coming up for 2011. And I wish that 2011 will be the best year ever for happiness, success and good health for all of you. I have a number of projects planned and new challenges that I’m very excited about. Last year was very successful—I had three titles published: Damned and Desired (which is also available in print), Dragon Witch and Secret Soiree. All these stories are available at Ellora’s Cave. I expect this year to be even better. To start off the New Year I thought I’d do something fun. I love books, movies and music, so I looked up the Best Books for 2010, the Top Grossing Movies for 2010 and also the Top Selling Concerts for 2010. The results might surprise you. They surprised me.

Top Selling Concerts for 2010

Despite the worldwide recession and high unemployment rate, some musicians had a good year and no trouble selling tickets. These included Bon Jovi, AC/DC and U2. Yeah, I was surprised too. These 80s artists/bands are still going strong. Yeah! I’m an 80s chic. Bon Jovi was number 1 who sold $201.1 million worth in concert tickets in 2010. AC/DC $177 million for #2, U2 came in third for $160.9 million. Lady Gaga at 4th (I’m a fan of Lady Gaga too.) she did $133.6 million. #5 was Metallica, then Michael Buble who sold $104.2 for #6. #7 was a live show “Walking with Dinosaurs” for #140 million and Paul McCartney with $93 million for #8. The Eagles were at #9 - $92.3 million and Roger Waters and his Pink Floyd revival hit #10 with $89.5 million.

Top Grossing Films of 2010

1) Toy Story 3 ($825.4 million)

2) Alice in Wonderland ($825.4 million)

3) Inception ($825.4 million)

4) Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (no amount given)

5) Shrek Forever After ($739.8 million)

6) Twilight Saga: Eclipse ($693.5 million)

7) Iron Man 2 ($582.2 million)

8) Despicable Me ($539.9 million)

9) How to Train Your Dragon ($494.9 million)

10) Clash of the Titans ($493.2 million)

Interesting to note that many are children’s stories and all are sci fi or fantasy.

The Best Books for 2010

Finding the top fiction books for 2010 was not easy. It seems that everyone has their “top” list: Time, The New Yorker, New York Times, Barnes and Noble, Library Journal, National Book Award and Man Booker Prize and others. Fiction Award Winners does a compilation comparing all these lists and came up with the Top 5 Fiction Books for 2010. I give a very brief summary. Click on the link to read more:

1) Freedom by Jonathan Frazen. A portrait of a Midwestern family, trying to build a better world while struggling to grow and love as a family.

2) A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Eagan. Linked short stories of a former punk rocker and record executive and the passionate, troubled woman he employs.

3) To The End of the Land by David Grossman. A human drama of an Israeli mother and the cost of war.

4) The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell. Japanese empire 1799 and a young clerk trying to win the hand of a wealthy woman in Holland.

5) The Imperfectionists by Tom Rachman. Set in Rome. It’s about the private lives of reporters, editors and executives of an international English language newspaper as they try to keep it afloat.

Other books that made the top 10 list:

Skippy Dies by Paul Murray. Prep school, boy’s school antics, quantum physics and an emotional read.

Lord of Misrule by Jaimy Gordon. Ruthless and violent world of cheap horse racing.

Wilson by Daniel Glowes. A graphic novel of dark humor about a misanthrope named Wilson.

Matterhorn by Karl Marlantes. An epic war novel of Vietnam.

How to Live Safely in a Science Fiction Universe by Charles Yu. (debut) A humorous story about a son searching for his father through quantum space time. A time traveling technician tries to help people who have screwed with their time machines. (This is one I might have to check out. I’m a sci fi fan.)

The Passage by Justin Cronin. A suspense adventure where a security breach at a secret U.S. government facility unleashes a monstrous product from a military experiment.

Faithful Place by Tana French. The 3rd novel of the Dublin murder squad.

So are you going to select one of the top best sellers from 2010 to begin your reading list for 2011? Or stick with your favorite authors and genres? Did you get a Nook or Kindle for Christmas? If so, what are you planning to download?

This is my fav for the Top Commercials of the Year. Sometimes they do make commercials that are entertaining or are heartwarming. This one about seatbelts gets the point across in an amazing way with out being gross or sad.
